Project: Full-time, on-site writing and reporting for Wired News, an award-winning digital magazine consistently ranked among the top 10 most visited news sites.
Description: I worked as a technology reporter for Wired Digital back in the heyday of 1999. What I remember most is about that job having to be at our desks at 7am, so we could pitch, write, and file our first news story by 9am. An editorial assistant would come around to take our orders for coffee and bagels, since nothing nearby was open that early (or as in my case, no one had yet had the time to feed themselves). By 2:00, when it was time to file our second post of the day—usually a feature story—I felt completely spent, and a little bit jet-lagged.
While I’d held writer/reporter jobs at other publications, this job was particularly challenging because I was writing for a daily as opposed to a weekly or monthly publication. Besides giving me the opportunity to work with other writers and editors of the highest caliber, this job taught me how to write under extreme deadline pressure. And shine while doing it.
Deliverables: Daily news and weekly feature stories, one-off advertorial for print magazine.
